Alison, my long suffering amateur radio widow, and I headed off down to Wales to help run an amateur radio station and activity weekend on the 20th and 21st October. The event was the annual Jamboree on the Air (JOTA), run for Scout groups all around the world by amateur radio operators. Our group was to be the 1st Porthmadog Scouts.

As well as running the radio station we took down some Morse Key kits for the scouts to build. These simple kits consisted of a buzzer, cable tie and battery and enabled the participants to build their own key and then practice sending and receiving Morse code between themselves.

In addition to ourselves, members of the Meirion Amateur Radio Societyand Porthmadog & District Amateur Radio Society were also in attendance. They ran the amateur radio station so that the youngsters could talk to Scouts in groups around the UK and abroad.
